Metropolitan Police Helmet Plates

The images below represent a selection of Metropolitan Police helmet plates from 1863 to the present day (May, 2018).

Many of the images come from the collection of the late Vic Wilkinson. The years stated for the periods in use of the helmet plates are taken from 'Badges of Office', by M.B. Taylor & V.L. Wilkinson, 1989.

There are some obvious exceptions, not least of which is that worn by the earliest women officers.

Please get in touch if you can provide a suitable image of any missing examples. I always give due acknowledgement of all contributions.

Thank you.
