Metropolitan Police - Station Police Sergeant 30M Francis Leslie Painter BEM

fr ancis Leslie Painter was born on 30 April 1908 in Bath, Somerset. He joined the Metropolitan Police on 1 July 1929 as PC 456M. 

At 3.30am on 7 March 1945, he was Station Sergeant at Deptford in South London when a German V2 Rocket landed near Trundleys Road. SPS attended along with several other officers.

 

They were directed to attend No. 184 where several people were belied trapped in the wreckage.  A contemporary account of the incident is shown below.
